I joined the Quinn Group 1st June 2006. For many this would be a normal job move but this Dublin girl moved to Leitrim and started work in Fermanagh, Daunting was an under statement.
The first day on the job was a frenzy of names and introductions. Once settled in my new department, all first-day-fears were forgotten. The Dublin accent helped too, as you can imagine The Quinn Group hadn't been greeted by "Whats the story!!!" before.
The programme is structured to involve the graduate in all aspects of Accounts. We train with Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and the aim at the end of three and a half years is to be a Fully Qualified Chartered Accountant.
My experience so far involved spending my first four months in Quinn Cement learning about Sales etc. Then into Purchasing, Credit Control, Cash Management and Purchase Ledger. All this experience was gathered in the Manufacturing Sector, I will spend time in Hospitality and Financial Services too, in order to gain a wider knowledge of accounts within several different industries.
There is a great support network for graduates, currently I am working with a great team including three accountants. I feel this is a vital part of the graduate programme, as there is a great work environment that supports learning and achieving.
