I Joined Quinn Glass over in 1994 after a presentation was made at my university in Liverpool. Being a local lad I didn't really know anything about the Quinn Group, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that the group was the largest thing nobody has ever heard of!, with a £1bn empire and investing over £250M in a new plant in Elton, Cheshire. I immediately handed in my CV and applied for the role of a graduate mechanical engineer.
After the recruitment process, I found myself working for the engineering manager in the early stages of the build of a brand new glass container manufacturing, filling and distribution facility.
During the last couple of years I have been working on numerous projects and building up my competence and experience. With guidance from my manager and mentor, I have worked on all aspects of project management activities from problem specifying, investigations, trials, tendering works, commercial negotiation, installation, and final commissioning. It is not all desk work and call taking, my role is very much "hands on" and a get it done attitude has served me well in my time. There are rarely quiet times and I am encouraged to constantly better myself and take ownership of the plant I am looking after.
Training and development is crucial for graduate roles, and this is shown through the range of courses and activities that I have been put through, from Legionella awareness to ILM certificates
I will soon be moving from Glass division a six-month secondment to Quinn Radiators in Newport South Wales, where I will be working as a project engineer helping to install and commission a newly built radiator factory, this is a role that I am looking forward to with new experiences and a good opportunity to improve myself.
I believe that it would be hard to match the skills and experience that I have gained within the relatively short space of time for Quinn Glass by working in any other company, and look forward to the next challenge waiting for me!
